Help Hillsdale College pass on timeless stories and instill virtue and character in young Americans.

Great childrenโ€™s literature delights the reader. Through classic tales of adventure and friendship, young people learn timeless truths about the world and how best to live.

Yet books like these are hard to write, and the best of them are revised or largely ignored in most of todayโ€™s schools.

One reason for this is a misunderstanding of how education works.

It is common today to think that education is something done to children. As a result, todayโ€™s popular books are often preachy and boring. They often provide distorted views of reality, and in the worst cases, they can do real harm.

The truth about education is that it is something done with young people, and they do most of the work. Children have a strong desire to learn the truth about the world and the goodness of things. Great childrenโ€™s literature allows them to do so in a way that is entertaining and fun.

The recovery of the right kind of childrenโ€™s literature is essential to the preservation of self-government. The reason? It helps form young peopleโ€™s understanding of the world and the right way to live.

Taught by Hillsdale faculty and offered free of charge to any citizen wishing to learn, this new nine-part course, โ€œClassic Childrenโ€™s Literature,โ€ examines some of the most beloved works of childrenโ€™s literature, including Aesopโ€™s Fables, Beauty and the Beast, Winnie-the-Pooh, Treasure Island, and The Wind in the Willows.

The free course is perfect for parents and grandparents who want to cultivate honesty, responsibility, discipline, friendship, and courage in their children while enjoying wonderful stories.

It is also an excellent resource for families who suddenly find themselves homeschooling during this unprecedented time.

Hillsdale College accomplishes all of its work while refusing to accept one penny of government fundingโ€”not even indirectly in the form of federal or state student loans and grants.

The support of private citizens like you, who understand the importance of education to liberty, is vital.

Please partner with Hillsdale to promote this exciting new online course, as well as help expand the Collegeโ€™s other educational outreach efforts on behalf of liberty.
